How much light does my house plant need?
Understand lux and daily light integral (DLI), and what your sensor readings mean for monstera, pothos, fiddle-leaf fig and more.
Lux vs. DLI
Lux is how bright it is right now. Daily light integral (DLI) is the total light a plant collects across a day — the number that actually predicts growth. Plant To Earn logs both.
Typical targets
Low-light plants (snake plant, ZZ, pothos): DLI 2–6. Medium (monstera, philodendron): DLI 6–12. High (fiddle-leaf fig, succulents, citrus): DLI 12+.
Acting on readings
If a plant sits below its range for a week, the app suggests a brighter spot. Moving a plant just 3 feet closer to a window can double its DLI.
Let the plant tell you
The Plant To Earn Core measures light, moisture, nutrients and soil temperature, and its sealed reservoir waters while you're away.
